Statement of Faith

Doctrine

We are pretribulation, premillennial, independent of all organizational bodies aside from our sending Church, Rushville Baptist Temple and fundamental in belief. We believe the KJV, that was translated from the Received Text, is the method that God used to preserve His Word for the English Speaking People. We believe that any translation that came from Alexandrian manuscripts (ESV, NIV, NWT, etc…) is perverse.

Scripture

We believe the whole Bible (66 books) is the full, the inerrant, infallible and inspired word of God. The Bible is the final authority on faith. We believe in the literal interpretation of the scriptures. We believe that the King James Bible is the preserved Word of God for the English speaking people. (2 Timothy 2:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 12:6-7)

Sinfulness of Man

Man was created in the image or likeness of God, but because of Adam’s sin the human race fell. We inherited our sinful nature and became alienated from God. Under the new covenant man will remain alienated from God until he places his faith alone in Christ, Jesus. (Genesis 1:26, 27; Genesis 3:7, 8; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23)

Salvation

Salvation is the free gift of God by his grace received through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Salvation comes when one believes that Jesus Christ is God and is the Son of God who died, was buried and rose again victorious over death, hell, and the grave.
Salvation is thereafter permanent and eternal to the believer. In a believer’s life there can be loss of fellowship with God through sin, but the Father and Son relationship with God can never be broken. Salvation is not a result of works, baptism or Church attendance. (Ephesians 2:8, 9; John 3:16; John 5:24; John 11:25, 26; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4; John 10:28, 29; Ephesians 1:13, 14; Titus 1:2)

Trinity or Godhead

There is one triune God, eternally existing in three persons Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory. (Matthew 3:16, 17; 1 John 5:7, 8)

Deity of Christ

Jesus Christ is fully God and continued to be fully God while He was in flesh on this earth. He was not a created being, Jesus is the Creator of all things and is equal with the Father in every way, although He does willingly submit to the will of the Father so that the Father, Son, and Spirit can carry out their eternal purpose. He was born of a virgin and therefore did not inherit a sin nature but a divine nature from God the Father. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; John 1:1, 14; John 10:30; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Timothy 3:16)

Baptism

We recognize water baptism by total immersion and the Lord’s Supper as the only Scriptural ordinances of obedience for the church and are not requirements for salvation in any way. (Matthew 3:16, 17; Acts 2:41; Acts 8:36-38; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

Rapture of the Church

We believe that the rapture of the church will happen at any moment, and it will take place before the seven-year tribulation. We believe that the tribulation period at the end of this age is intended for the Jewish people and for the unbelieving world and not for the Church. (John 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

The Second Coming of Christ

At the end of the Tribulation, Jesus will personally and visibly return with His saints, to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom, which was promised to the nation of Israel. (Matthew 24:29-31; Revelation 19:11-21)

Tongues and Healing

We believe the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing, were temporary. Speaking in tongues in the Bible is always used to mean a “language” (i.e. Arabic, Hebrew, Greek) and never an ecstatic utterance. It was always for the purpose of spreading the Gospel. It was never the common or necessary sign of the baptism or filling of the Holy Spirit. Deliverance of the body from sickness and death awaits our transition to Heaven, although God frequently chooses to answer the prayers of believers for physical healing. (Acts 2:4-11; 1 Corinthians 14:22; 2 Timothy 4:20; Hebrews 2:3, 4)
